Arnold Wayne Edwards

Arnold Wayne Edwards, 76, of Bladenboro, passed away on August 3, 2026, at Cape Fear Valley hospital in Fayetteville. Born on June 19, 1950, in Robeson County to the late Sanford Edwards and Velma Blackburn Edwards, Arnold’s life was one marked by dedication to family, hard work, and a love for travel.

Arnold’s earliest days unfolded on a farm, working alongside his father and learning the value of labor. During high school, Arnold worked at Fisher’s in Bladenboro. These formative experiences shaped his strong work ethic and deep connection to his roots.

He went on to build a career as a welder, dedicating 36 years to his craft becoming a lead project manager with Westinghouse Nuclear. Through this role, Arnold traveled around the world, embracing every journey and the chance to experience new places. His commitment and skill earned him the respect of colleagues and friends throughout his professional life.

He cherished spending time with his family, embracing each moment spent together. He was passionate about travel and enjoyed taking cruises. His adventurous spirit led him to earn a pilot license, a testament to his love for flight and discovery. In his quieter moments, Arnold found joy in classic westerns, especially Gunsmoke.

Arnold’s legacy lives on through his children: his son, Matthew Edwards (Christy) of Clarkton and daughters: Sandy Durden (Willie) of Bladenboro, Mollie Lewis (Billy) of Wilmington, and Marianne Valentiner (Stewart) of Elizabethtown. He is also survived by his brothers: JD Edwards (Darlina) and Deryl Edwards (Darlene), both of Bladenboro and the mother of his children, Pamela Edwards Hamilton. Arnold was a proud grandfather to Karly, Evan, Will, Walker, Vera, Mae, Eva, Elizabeth, and Etta, and great-grandfather to John Baylor and Bryson. Each of them carries forward his spirit, lessons, and love.

A funeral service will be held at 11am on Thursday, August 6th at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with Reverend Jay Dorman officiating service. The family will hold a private burial.

Arnold will be remembered for his devotion to family, integrity in work, and eagerness to explore the world around him. His life touched all who knew him, and his memory will remain a cherished presence in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
