Carlton James Johnson

SSG (Ret) Carlton James Johnson, 78, of Bladenboro, passed away peacefully at his home on August 1, 2026. Born on March 7, 1948, in Robeson County to the late Cleveland Johnson and Julia Pait Johnson, Carlton dedicated his life to serving others, cherishing his loved ones, and living with integrity and kindness.

Carlton’s unwavering devotion to his family was evident in all he did. He is survived by the love of his life, his beloved wife, Pamela L. Johnson. This August 21st would have marked their 55th wedding anniversary, a testament to their enduring partnership and commitment. He is also survived by his cherished daughter, Paula Dalton and husband James; two dear sisters: Kathy Johnson and Sandra Monroe; and his granddaughter, Madison Dalton, who brought great pride and joy to his life.

A proud veteran, Carlton served his country with honor for 21 years in the US Army and National Guard. His sense of duty, perseverance, and loyalty to those he served alongside left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

In his retirement, Carlton delighted in life’s simple pleasures and found solace in nature. He loved looking at boats and enjoying fresh seafood in Calabash, and often took afternoon walks on the beach, savoring the beauty of the coast. At home, he could be found watching westerns, immersing himself in tales of adventure and resilience, or tinkering in the yard, always eager to make and fix things with his own hands.

Carlton’s compassionate spirit touched not only his family but also the many people whose lives he graced with kindness and generosity. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but the memories he created and the love he gave will continue to inspire and comfort.

The family will receive friends from 1-3pm on Wednesday, August 5th, at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A graveside service will follow at 3:30pm in the Singletary Cemetery at Sandhills, off of Old Boardman Road in Bladenboro.
