Reverend Ecwood C. Lancaster, affectionately known to many as "Preacher Eckie," passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on December 2, 1936, Preacher Eckie’s life was a testament to unwavering faith and devoted service to the Lord.
At Victory United Methodist Church is where he dedicated his life to the Lord and answered the call to ministry. During his 60 plus years in ministry, he served four pastoral appointments with one being a three-point charge. He retired from the ministry as a District Superintendent of the Wilmington District. Evangelism was a passion of Preacher Eckie’s, and he was awarded many recognitions for evangelism as well as stewardship. He ministered throughout the United States and other countries.
He raised his children on a church bus going from youth retreat to revivals preaching. Along with his family, he shared his ministry with the Agape share group, the Charity Kids, The Pilgrims, and other Southern Gospel groups.
Eckie is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley Rivers Lancaster, who stood beside him through the years. Their children: Woody Lancaster and wife Carolyn, Kip Lancaster (Trinh), and Leslie L. Sinclair (Patrick). His legacy lives on vividly through his grandchildren: Tripp (Emili), Chase (Amanda), Quinn (Kate), Scout, Anthony (Ashley), and Dom (Shawneque), as well as his great-grandchildren: Bailee, Layken, Hartley, Racquel, A.J., and Adalynn. Eckie also leaves behind loving nieces: Wanda Spinosa, Marsha Arno, Judi McLaurin, and nephews: Benny Cannon, Larry Lancaster, Michael Spinosa, Durry Cannon, and Gary Lancaster, each carrying forward his spirit in their own lives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ecwood "Heck" Lancaster and Lessie Leach Lancaster, and siblings: Lenora Cannon, Leon Lancaster, Helen Spinosa, Eunice Galacci, Hershal Lancaster, and Mavis Tew.
Preacher Eckie dedicated his life to guiding others spiritually and enriching the lives of those around him. His enduring faith and compassionate nature endeared him to countless individuals who sought his counsel and presence during times of joy and hardship alike.
As a respected leader within his church and community, Preacher Eckie's influence extended far beyond the pulpit. He was a beacon of hope and a source of comfort for many, offering wisdom and encouragement that touched lives in profound and lasting ways.
The family will receive friends from 1-1:45pm on Wednesday, June 3rd at Wesley's Chapel, located at 2409 Peanut Plant Road in Elizabethtown, NC. The funeral service will begin at 2:00pm with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Preacher Eckie’s life reminds us of the power of faith, the strength of community, and the enduring impact one life can have on the world. His memory will be cherished deeply by all who were blessed to know him. May his memory be a blessing and his soul rest in eternal peace.
