Mary Ellen “Linda” Hewett Bryan, 75, of Bladenboro, left for her heavenly home on September 4, 2026. She was the oldest of four children born to Preacher Paul Vernon Hewett and Pauline Russ Hewett. She loved them and her siblings, Laura Davis, Patsy Singletary and Danny Hewett dearly.

On May 16, 1969 she married the love of her life, Grover Carson “G.C.” Bryan, Jr. They had three children Gary Bryan (Renee), Stephen Bryan (Kelly) and Stefanie Lowery (Jerico). Over the years they were blessed with nine grandchildren: Gary Bryan, Jr. (Cora), Austin Bryan (Jenn), Lewis Bryan (Hannah), Allyson Burney, Carson Burney, Jackson Lowery, Harrison Bryan, Taylor Bryan, and Alex Lowery and nine great-grandchildren: Kyler Gettings, Harley Bryan, Joshua Bryan, Aurora Bryan, Bradley Bryan, Morgan Bryan, Thatcher Bryan, Grayson Bryan, and Carter Bryan. She counted her family as her greatest blessing. She loved cooking for them and doting over them for visits, birthdays and holidays. She made the kitchen the hub of the home and you didn’t go to nana’s house without sitting around the kitchen watching her cook.

Through her work as a schoolteacher with Bladen County Schools and active member of Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church she touched many lives. She believed in loving and serving others and letting God’s light shine through her. One of the things that brought her much joy was planning trips for the Women’s Auxiliary, Sunday School Classes and other groups. She loved helping and being a part of planning Vacation Bible School and church plays. Over the years the families and children of Oak Grove were considered her extended family.

She left many lessons for those she leaves behind and her biggest wish was that all get saved and serve the Lord.

The family will receive friends starting at 3:00 pm on September 6, 2026 at Oak Grove Original Freewill Baptist Church followed by the funeral service at 4:00 pm. Burial will follow services in the church cemetery.

The family would like to thank Stacey, Yvonne, and the rest of the staff from Lower Cape Fear Life Care for their dedication and care provided to Linda over the past year.
