Obituary

Shawn Kristopher Nye, 54, of Elizabethtown went home to be the Lord on Friday October 16, 2026. He was born on August 18, 1972, in Bladen County to the late Ted Delane Nye and Retta Alexander Nye. He was a great father, brother and faithful friend. He leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and memories that will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

Shawn was a graduate of East Bladen High School, Class of 1990 and spent much of his working life in the logging parts industry. He was a hardworking man who appreciated the simple things in life. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to church, riding motorcycles, shooting pool and singing karaoke. He could often be found telling stories and catching up with his “brothers from another mother,” as he affectionately called them. He loved cooking, especially for a crowd. He had a special love for big trucks and guns. He enjoyed attending Galeed Baptist Church and most recently, Colly Chapel where he worshipped the Lord, when he was able.

Shawn’s greatest pride and joy in life were his three daughters. They were the light of his life, and his love for them was immeasurable. His favorite thing to do was spend time with his girls, especially hunting with them or shooting guns with them. They held a special place in his heart, and the love he had for them will remain with them always.

Above all else, Shawn loved the Lord. His faith was a guiding force in his life, and he faced his final journey with the peace and confidence of knowing where he was going when he left this earth. He was ready to go home to be with his Lord, and that faith brings comfort to those he leaves behind.

In addition to his parents, Shawn was preceded in death by his beloved brother-in-law Jimmy Lewis.

He is survived by his daughters, Autumn Brooke Nye, Lyla Grace Nye and Kristian Blair Nye all of New Bern. Also surviving are his sisters Pam Nye and Jan Lewis, and brother Dean Nye, all of Elizabethtown.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who was there for Shawn throughout his illness. Your love, support, kindness, and presence during such a difficult time meant more than words can express.

Though Shawn’s time on earth has come to an end, his memory will live on through his daughters, the people whose lives he touched, the memories he leaves behind, and the faith that carried him home. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

“Absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” — 2 Corinthians 5:8
