Tommy Singletary

Thomas Paul Singletary, affectionately known by many as Tommy, passed away on July 28, 2026, at Cape Fear Valley hospital in Fayetteville, at the age of 75. Born on January 11, 1951, in Bladen County, Tommy’s life was marked by devotion to his family, a steadfast work ethic, and a love for both the simple and profound joys of country living.

Tommy was the cherished son of the late Webb Knot Singletary and Ruby Bryan Singletary. He was a proud native of Bladenboro, where his character and kindness enriched the lives of all who knew him. Throughout his years, Tommy remained devoted to those closest to him and placed great importance on nurturing and maintaining relationships within his family.

He is survived by sons: Paul Singletary (Holly), T.J. Strickland; stepchildren: Wayne Shores and Lonnie Shores; brothers: Sammy Singletary (and wife Sandra), Melvin Singletary (Darlene), Webb Jr. Singletary, Isaac Singletary (and wife Andrea), and Victor Singletary; sisters: Vicky Hickman (and husband Ricky), Debra Bill (Bennie), and Minnie Pait; grandchildren: Taylor Shores, Hayden Hunt, and his Yorkie, Lilly.

Tommy was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Faye Singletary, whose memory always remained close to his heart. He also mourned the loss of his daughter, Lisa Strickland; grandchildren: Tyler Shores and Skyler Shores; and his siblings: David Singletary, Newell Singletary, and little Ruby.

A true man of the land and a man's man, Tommy found immense joy in the outdoors—always at ease among his fields, with his chickens, and in the company of his faithful Yorkie, Lilly. He relished farming, spent countless peaceful hours fishing, and took great pleasure in watching dirt track racing. Singletary Mill Pond was a place dear to him, where he could bask in nature and reflect on all that he cherished. His mornings were often started with a good cup of black coffee and the embrace of a new day.

Faith guided Tommy’s steps, and he carried his love for the Lord with warmth and quiet strength. He approached each day with gratitude and was known for offering a heartfelt “have a blessed day” to friends and strangers alike. His guiding philosophy was simple yet profound: “work smarter not harder, and if you don’t it’s your own fault.” Tommy’s wisdom and wit left an indelible mark on those around him, shaping generations with humor and honesty.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Tommy’s honor at 6:00 PM on August 2, 2026, at the Bladenboro Chapel of Bladen-Gaskins, 800 N. Main Street, Bladenboro, NC 28320. Family and friends are invited to gather and remember a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

His memory will continue to live on in the stories shared among loved ones and in the lessons he imparted through both word and deed.
