Barbara Ann Britt Gooden

Barbara Ann Britt Gooden of Bladenboro left this world unexpectedly in the evening hours of Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at the age of 82 while at her home. She was born August 17, 1943, one of two children to the late Robert James Britt and Emma Mae Strickland Britt. She reunites with her dear parents, beloved daughter Wendy Gooden Hester and brother Larry Britt.

Barbara was a caregiver by nature, always showering her family and friends with kindness, compassion, and empathy. Spending time with those she loved were treasured moments of any given day. She and her daughter, Felicia, often spoke on the phone, sometimes as much as five times a day to either catch up on the events of the day, make plans for future shopping trips or just to say, “I Love You”.

Barbara was known for her talents in the kitchen and if you should ask Bobby, he’d tell you she was the “World’s Greatest Cook”. When not preparing something fabulous for her family, she enjoyed a trip to her favorite restaurants, Dale’s Seafood in Tabor City or Captain Nance’s in Calabash. She also enjoyed her Hallmark movies and trips to the North Carolina Mountains.

Barbara was a smart, independent, hardworking lady who dedicated her heart and time to giving to others. She loved the Lord and her family at New Light Church in Bladenboro. Her gentle nature and devotion she shared with residents in the local nursing homes. She built strong bonds by making others feel safe, valued and understood.

Barbara’s legacy lives on in the hearts of her dedicated husband, Robert “Bobby” Gooden of the home, cherished daughter, Felicia Stanley and husband Paul of Bladenboro, granddaughter Heather Canady and great grandchildren Keegan Shoe and Memphis Carter, who were her heartstrings and countless other family and friends.

Her family will receive friends on Sunday, August 2, 2026, from 2-2:45 pm at New Light Church in Bladenboro with a funeral service following at 3:00 pm with the Reverend Dale Hester and the Reverend Howard Allbright officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Shady Grove Cemetery in Bladenboro following the services.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Bladen County EMS for their quick response and compassionate care during this difficult time.
