After living a full and glorious life surrounded by his family and faithfully serving his Savior, Charles F. Brogdon, 96, went home to be with his Heavenly Father and was reunited with his beloved wife, Eunice, on September 23, 2026. Charles was born in Whiteville on August 16, 1930, to Polly Pridgen Brogdon and William Berry Brogdon. He grew up in Pender County, North Carolina, and Dillon County, South Carolina. Charles was preceded in death by his 14 siblings.
Charles was the oldest member of Sandy Grove Baptist Church at the time of his passing. He faithfully served his church in many capacities throughout the years, including serving as a deacon. He was also one of the men who helped build the church fellowship hall, leaving behind a lasting legacy of service to his church and community.
Charles proudly served his country in the United States Army and later retired from Veeder-Root in Elizabethtown.
Charles met the love of his life, Eunice Edwards of Bladenboro, on a blind date. That meeting began a beautiful love story that lasted 66 years. Eunice preceded him in death, and Charles often spoke of the importance of love in a person's life, believing, as Scripture teaches, that without love, we have nothing.
He is survived by their only child, Kim Walters (BJ) of Bladenboro; two grandsons, Daniel B. Miller (Tracy) and Matthew A. Miller (Corey), both of Bladenboro; and three great-grandchildren, Shane, Elizabeth, and Lillian. He is also survived by Corey's children, Coreyonna, London, and Tylan as well as sisters-in-law Linda Yandle of Bladenboro and Eloise Sullivan of Cerro Gordo, along with many loving nieces and nephews.
Charles had a special heart for children and a deep love for the ministry of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. He proudly kept pictures of St. Jude patients alongside pictures of his grandchildren. Supporting and praying for children through this ministry was very important to him and was a special part of his life.
The family will receive friends from 2:00–3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Sandy Grove Baptist Church. A Celebration of Life service will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m., with Reverend Kevin Kinlaw and Reverend Jerry Beck officiating. Burial will follow the service at Bladen Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Elizabethtown.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sandy Grove Baptist Church, 8299 NC 242 Hwy S, Bladenboro, NC 28320; St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, 206 Warrior Trail, Whiteville, NC 28472.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the nurses and staff of Lower Cape Fear LifeCare for all of their love, compassion, and support shown to Charles and his family.
