Christine Hargett Pope

November 12, 1954 — September 3, 2025

Elizabethtown

Christine Hargett Pope, 70, of Elizabethtown passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at Duke University Hospital. Born on November 12, 1954, in Cumberland County, she was the cherished daughter of the late Prince Elee Hargett and Annie Owens Hargett.

Christine was deeply devoted to her family, with her son, Patrick, serving as the heart of her life. She reveled in watching her grandchildren: Patrick John Maitland, Jr., Paige Lynn Maitland, and Alyssa Lynn Maitland, thrive academically, often rewarding their achievements to encourage their growth. Christine loved family gatherings, particularly relishing Thursday evenings spent playing cards with those she held dear.

A woman of great compassion, Christine was known for her love of people. She had a unique ability to connect with anyone and was often described as someone who "never met a stranger." Her big heart led her to extend a helping hand to those in need, reflecting her selflessness and generosity.

Christine had a zest for life that was evident in her diverse interests and hobbies. She enjoyed the lively rhythms of beach music, shagging and attending concerts at Goldston’s Beach. She found joy in watching Jeopardy and traveling to Atlantic City. Traveling alongside her husband, Jeff Pope, she took great pleasure in watching him sing gospel music while they explored together.

Christine leaves behind her loving husband, Jeff Pope; son, Patrick Maitland and wife Jennifer of Fayetteville; grandchildren: Patrick John Maitland, Jr., Paige Lynn Maitland, and Alyssa Lynn Maitland; siblings: Evelyn Tyndall of Fayetteville, Lisa McNeill and husband Robert of Clinton, Gayle Walters and husband Bobby of Fayetteville, Wanda Cassell and husband Kenn of Asheboro, Robert Hargett and wife Tammy of Salisbury and several nieces and nephews. Her legacy of love and compassion will continue to resonate through her family and all those privileged to know her. She will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by many.

The family will receive friends at 10am on Saturday, September 6th at Wesley's Chapel Church followed by a funeral service at 11am with Reverend Warren Hill officiating. Burial will conclude services in the Bladen Memorial Gardens in Elizabethtown.
