David Allen Butler, 71, United States Navy Veteran of Clarkton, North Carolina went to his eternal home on Sunday, June 29, 2025, while at Cape Fear Valley Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville. He was born in Bladen County on January 27, 1954.
David is preceded in death by his parents, Roy MacMillan Butler and Dera Mae Williams Butler, and two brothers, Roy Mac Butler and James “Jimmy” Butler. Left to cherish his memory are beloved wife, Susan B. Butler of the home, son David Allen Butler II, wife Courtney and grandson Jainus Butler.
David loved his family, his community and his country. He spent the early years of his life serving in the United States Navy and later years as an asset to both his neighbors and friends. David and his family were known to the Town of Clarkton for the land donated to Butler Park. He planted the park Christmas tree and made sure it was decorated for each holiday every year. He spent 38 years devoting his life as a scout leader in the local Bladen County Boy Scouts Troop and serving as part of the Clarkton Lions Club.
A man of many talents, David could fix anything he put his mind to and was known for his skills in woodwork. He was a history buff and spent many hours participating in Civil and Medieval Renaissance Reenactments. He also enjoyed studying Native American Culture, playing Santa for the kids at church, and decorating his home for Halloween. Of all the things he did, his title of Grandpa was what he took pride in most. Spending time with Jainus teaching and learning new things together brought him tremendous joy.
The family will receive friends from 4-5:30 pm on Wednesday, July 2nd at Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A graveside service will follow in the Clarkton City Cemetery at 6 pm with Pastor Mark Guftafson officiating.
