David Taylor Ayers Jr.

David Taylor Ayers, “Dave”, of Elizabethtown, NC, passed away on Thursday, April 23rd, 2026 following a brief illness. Dave was born on October 18th, 1962 to the late Katherine Melrose Ayers Lomax and David Taylor Ayers, Sr. He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Roy Eugene Lomax. Dave was retired from Amerigas in Fayetteville, NC.

A devoted son, stepson, and brother, he especially enjoyed being an uncle to his two nieces, Laura Rush and Lynn Smith of Lillington, NC. He was a fun uncle during their childhoods, teaching them to become champion checker players and masters of board games and frisbee throwing. He carried on that loving tradition when he became a great uncle to Laura’s children: Owen and Connor, and Lynn’s children: Grey, Laney, and Mary Scott.

Dave was a great lover of fishing, oyster roasts, eating homemade boiled peanuts, growing giant varieties of hot peppers and tomatoes, and reading and watching all types of documentaries. He never met a stranger and was a friend to all.

In addition to his nieces, he is survived by his sister, Katherine Sasser; aunts: Lucille Meachen, Margaret Jeanette and husband Herman, uncle, James C. Ayers, and numerous cousins. Dave was greatly loved by all his family and will be dearly missed.

A memorial service will be held at a later date and time.
