Dennis Ray Burney, of Bladenboro, passed away after his long-time battle with illness at the age of 64. He was the son of the late Lonnie Burney and June Godwin Burney and brother of the late Regina Pait.
He was the owner and operator of the local florist in his home town of Bladenboro, Floral Designs by Dennis, for 38 years. His beautiful masterpieces arrayed many ceremonies, and homes through the years. Even though he retired from the business, his passion for flowers and landscaping continued to be his happy place. Dennis enjoyed listening to the sounds of nature and beauty of the flowers while sitting on his porch, usually accompanied by his beloved feline, White Face.
Among his talents was his love of dance. He spent several of his younger years clogging with the Strawberry Cloggers. His energy level and enthusiasm were contagious to everyone around him. He enjoyed celebrating Halloween and hosted a neighborhood haunted house for about three years. He loved the smiles, laughter, and excitement it brought to everyone’s life.
While everyone knew Dennis loved to stay busy, perhaps his most memorable trait was that he loved to give directives. He enjoyed telling others how and what to do and always in such a way that folks didn’t mind doing it. Dennis will always be remembered for his determination to enjoy life no matter what the obstacles, his energy for always getting things done, his ability to spread joy wherever he was, and his love for family.
Left to cherish his memory are siblings, Keith Burney (Sharon), Dwayne Burney (Karen) and Brian Pait (Kristy), all of Bladenboro, three aunts, Catherine Hester Burney, Wanda Singletary (Ronald), and Linda Finley, five nieces Crystal White (Gary), Jessica Burney, Paige Burney, Lauren Burney, and Amber Pait, one nephew Franklin Pait, two great nieces Peyton Burney, Ava White, one great nephew Chase White, God-Child Essance Murphy, close friend Maria Bennett, and a host of other beloved family members and friends.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 12:30 pm-1:45 pm at the Bladenboro Chapel of Bladen Gaskins, 800 N. Main Street, Bladenboro, with a funeral service following at 2 pm with the Reverend Charles Hester and Chris Harrelson officiating. Burial will follow the services in the Hester Cemetery on Dusty Road in Bladenboro.
At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of Keith and Sharon Burney at 667 Cabbage Road in Bladenboro.
