Durham Singletary

Durham Singletary, 81, United States Army National Guard Veteran of Elizabethtown passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2025, while at Elizabethtown Nursing Center in Elizabethtown. He was the son of the late Julian Lennon Singletary Sr. and Laura Mae Pait Singletary. He was preceded also in death by his siblings, Virgina S. McKeithan and J. Lennon Singletary Jr.

 Left to cherish his memory are two nephews, Jeff Singletary (Beth) and Robert E. McKeithan Jr. (Rebecca), two nieces Susan M. Trimble (Keith) and Rebecca S. Gilreath (widow of Scott Gilreath), a host of cousins and his beloved church family.

 Durham was a hardworking, devoted Christian man. He was a longtime member of the Center Road Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and sang in the church choir. He worked with Campbell Oil Company of Elizabethtown from which he retired. Durham was a die-hard New York Yankees fan, whatever baseball field or place they were playing that’s where he wanted to be. As a young man, he had a love of airplanes so, he acquired his pilot’s license and enjoyed flying his own plane. Durham will be fondly remembered for his dedication to the Lord, his commitment to his country, his love of genealogy and his love of sweets.

 The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 19, 2025, from 2:00-2:30 pm at Center Road Baptist Church in Bladenboro with a funeral service immediately following at 2:30 pm. Reverend Thomas Hunsinger and Reverend Darryll Hester will be officiating the service. Burial will follow the services in the New Pait Cemetery in Bladenboro.
