Ellen “Mitzie” Lockamy was born May 19, 1953 and ascended to heaven on September 20, 2026.
Mitzie and her husband Eugene “Gene” Lockamy shared 54 years of love and devotion. Together they raised two children, Tommy whom she adored and Samantha who she loved dearly. They have one grandchild, Elijah McLaurin, that they raised. From the moment he came into this world, he has been her pride and joy. They also helped raise Leigha Sellers who they loved as if she were their own.
Mitzie is now with her loved ones waiting on all of us in heaven, with her son Tommy Lockamy, her parents, Dudley and Margie Benson, her brother, Donald Benson, and her niece, Angela Muse Jackson.
She leaves a lasting impression on those who are still here, her devoted husband, “Gene” Lockamy, daughter Samantha Lockamy, cherished grandson Elijah McLaurin, sister Glynda Muse and brother-in-law Stephen Muse, daughter-in-law Melissa Lockamy, beloved great niece Leigha Sellers, niece and nephew Rebecca and Tony Horne, and many more nieces and nephews who will certainly miss her. As well as a host of friends and family that she loved dearly. Her memory will live on in each of them.
Mitzie and Gene enjoyed going to the beach together, however a sunny day by the pool followed by some seafood at Pier 41 would satisfy her too. She always wanted Gene to learn how to shag because she certainly enjoyed her beach music, but she also knew he had two left feet. Her favorite saying was, “Oh Well” and was usually accompanied by her rolling her eyes. Mitzie never seemed to let the little things bother her.
She was passionate about her family and spending time them. When her children were young, she enjoyed watching Tommy in sports or anything else he wanted to do and she enjoyed entering Samantha in pageants and dance competitions. Always the proud mom cheering them on in all their accomplishments. Mitzie shared her love not only with her own children but every child she encountered. She cherished her time as a Kindergarten and an EC assistant and a bus monitor. She also loved her work friends who she often referred to as her work family.
Mitzie often hosted family reunions, cookouts and pool parties at her home. Any chance to have the family together she would, and she always tried to be present at any special occasion or family gathering. She especially loved spending time with her sister, Glynda, reminiscing about the good ole days from their childhood and sharing their love of crafting.
Mitzie had a smile that could light up the room and a personality to match. If you were lucky enough to have known her, you were blessed.
