Ernest "Mel" Dailey Jr.

Ernest “Mel” Dailey Jr., United States Navy Veteran of Clarkton, passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025, while at his home at the age of 80. He was born in Robeson County on October 30, 1944, son of the late Ernest Melville Dailey Sr. and Louine Porter Dailey.

 Mel was a devoted son, brother, uncle and dear friend to all. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends as well as welcoming the opportunity to make new friends. He was an avid reader and animal lover. Mel was known for always taking in strays to give them a place to be fed and feel loved. He enjoyed genealogy and sports, especially his beloved North Carolina State Wolfpack and St. Louis Cardinals. His devotion to his country, his family and his friends will forever be held dear in the hearts of those that knew and love him.

 Left to cherish his memory are brother, Larry Dailey of Clarkton, sister Phyllis McDougald (Lawrence) of Clarkton, two nieces, Morgan McDougald Youngblood (Ross) and Camille McDougald-Russ (Brad), his devoted companion, Deborah Heustess and her beloved children and grandchildren.

 The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the caregivers who assisted with the care and support of Mel during his sickness.

 A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 26, 2025, in the Porter Cemetery, 7610 White Plains Church Road, Clarkton, NC 28433 with the Reverend Christopher Carlisle officiating.

 In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Porter Cemetery Fund, 7610 White Plains Church Rd, Clarkton, NC 28433.
