Ethelyne (Elaine) Tyler Smith Dickens, 82, of Elizabethtown passed away Saturday, January 7, 2017. She is preceded in death by husbands Laverne Smith and Robert Dickens, son: Harrell Laverne Smith Jr., sister Dorothy Dent, brothers Buddy Tyler and L.C Tyler, great grandson Kyle Ray Joyner and step-son Johnny Dickens. Elaine is survived by one son Timmy Smith (Kim) of Holden Beach; step-son Bobby Dickens of Ammon; two daughters Wanda Thornton (Bobby) of Roseboro; Angela Smith of Dublin, three step daughters: Louise Rivenbark (Tim) of Bolivia; Betty Pait of Wilmington; and Tammy Landreth (Joey) of West Virginia; 21 grandchildren, 29 great grand-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Elaine cherished her family and her church, Briar Branch Baptist, where she was the Pianist and treasurer for many years. She enjoyed working in her flowers, playing the piano, fishing and traveling in the mountains. Elaine was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend and will be missed dearly by family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Tuesday, January 10th at Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. Funeral services will be at 2 pm Wednesday, January 11th at Briar Branch Baptist Church in Elizabethtown with Rev. Barry Helms and Rev. Carlton Bryan officiating. Burial will follow the services in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Friends fo the Cancer Center, Cape Fear Valley, P.O. Box 4000, Fayetteville, NC 28302.
