Evelyn Butler Cain

Evelyn Butler Cain of Suffolk, VA, formerly of Bladenboro, NC, went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, May 31, 2026. She was 26 days short of reaching her 99th birthday. She was born in Columbus County, NC to the late Albert and Betty Arnette Butler.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life Sanford P Cain. She also was preceded in death by sisters Alma Gainus, Edell Wiggins, and brother AJ Butler.

Evelyn had such a servant’s heart, living out her faith with all whom she met. She was a long-time member of Zion Hill Baptist Church in Bladenboro.NC. She and Sanford both were always finding ways to help and serve not only the members of their church, but their community all around. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years, and poured out her heart with the love of Jesus to all she came in contact with. Evelyn was an Avon Representative for many years.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews, including nephew Mike and Mary Ruth Tilley of Suffolk, Va., with whom she has lived with for the past twenty years.

There will be a visitation at Zion Hill Baptist Church, Bladenboro beginning at 1:00 pm prior to a celebration of life service at 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 6, 2026, by Reverend Ronald Hester. Burial will be at Lewis Cemetery in Bladenboro following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Zion Hill Baptist Church, 12418 NC-131 Hwy, Bladenboro, NC 28320.
