Geneva McKeithan Hyatt

Geneva McKeithan Hyatt, 80, of Bladenboro passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2025 at Cape Fear Valley Hospital in Fayetteville. She was born on March 3, 1944 to the late Daniel Ray and Aline McKeithan. She was also preceded in death by two daughters: Teresa Evers, Sheila Jenkins and one sister, Charlotte Ann McKeithan.

Geneva leaves behind her son, Charles Hyatt, Sr. and wife Teresa; brothers: Ray McKeithan, Michael McKeithan; sisters: Sue Mote, Liz Muller; grandchildren: Marie, Tabatha, Debra, C.J. Belynda, T.J., Amber, Jonathan and a whole host of great-grandchildren.

Geneva was a spirited and loving woman who lived life on her own terms, bringing joy to those around her. She found happiness in life’s simple pleasures, whether it was going to play bingo, indulging in reruns of classic TV shows, or getting lost in a good horror movie or any movie in her later years. No matter the time of day, she could always enjoy an episode of Friends, her go-to comfort show.

Her love for animals was evident in the way she cared for her beloved dogs, Tiny and Gizmo. Tiny, a rescue she found in a ditch, held a special place in her heart, and in her later years, Gizmo became another cherished companion. Along with her love for dogs, she had a sweet tooth and never turned down a snack—black coffee, ice cream, fudge-cicles, or Haagen-Dazs—any treat would do.

Ms. Geneva was a true pistol—tough as nails, yet filled with love and tenderness for her family and friends. She may have had a strong exterior, but beneath it was a heart that cared deeply and worked tirelessly to take care of her loved ones in the best way she could. She will be remembered for her strength, kindness, and the love she shared with those fortunate enough to know her.

A funeral service will be held at 3pm on Sunday, February 2nd at the Bladenboro Chapel of Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home. Pastor Leroy Wright will officiate the service. Burial will follow in the Singletary Cemetery at Sandhills in Bladenboro.
