Gurney Dowless

Gurney Dowless, 85, of Bladenboro passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.
He was a member and past Deacon at Center Road Baptist Church. He attended and supported his church until the end of his life. He was retired Civil Service. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.
Mr. Dowless was born in Bladen County on February 5, 1927 to the late Nealy and Alta Davis Dowelss. He is preceded in death by his wife, Edna Earl Cook Dowless.
He survived by his three sons, Donald Dowless and wife Janet of Bladenboro, Lewis Dowless and wife Joann of Bladenboro and Terry Dowless and wife Bunnie of Bladenboro; four brothers, Warren Dowless and wife Kathleen, Cletus, Harold and Kenneth Dowless; two sisters, Gladys Pharr and Sally O'Sullivan and husband Kevin; five grandchildren, Michelle Pait, Greg Dowless, Tracy Dowless, Amy Britt and Cameron Dowless; six great grandchildren, Zac and Caleb Dowless, Nathan and Nolan Pait, Jacob and Abby Britt.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 26, 2013 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral home. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 27, 2013 at Center Road Baptist Church at 3:00 pm with Rev. David Rutland officiating. Burial will follow in church cemetery.
