Hal Bradley Smith

Hal Bradley Smith, 77, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2026. He was born in 1949 to the late Edwin Carlyle and Hazel Atkinson Smith. In addition to his parents, Hal is preceded in death by his sister, Ginger Kinlaw.

Left to cherish his memory are his brother, Keith Smith (Brenda); his son, Bradley Smith (Emily); his significant other, Lisa Smith; step-children, Kelly Fox (Dan) and Kevin Storms (Lyndsay); grandchildren, Aidan, Austin, Alex, Griffin, and Evelyn; brother-in-law, Gene Kinlaw; nephews, Michael Smith, Bruce Smith, Shannon Kinlaw, his niece, Krystanna Havard, and their families; his lifelong friend Hugh Woodard; and numerous family and friends.

Hal was born in Raleigh, NC but raised at White Lake in Bladen County, NC. He attended high school in Elizabethtown and was a graduate of ECU with a degree in Business Administration. Hal spent most of his career with CP&L in various roles, where he retired in 2000. Upon retirement, he moved to the NC coast where he spent countless hours boating, watching the sunset, and working on projects in his garage workshop. He loved to tinker, and was the sort of man that could fix almost anything. If there was a problem or something that needed to be fixed, he would find a solution. He enjoyed woodworking and reading. He pursued his pilot's license and was even in the process of building his own airplane until health issues forced him to give that up. Hal especially enjoyed his boating adventures with his son and daughter-in-law along the coast and spending time with Lisa and their grandkids on outings to parks, museums and the movies. He was also a skilled jokester, often making "Hal"arious comments and quips that kept people around him chuckling. Hal's greatest joy came from time spent with his family and friends. He was loved and will be greatly missed.

The family will host a graveside memorial service on September 19, 2026 at 11:00am at the Smith Family Cemetery in Lagoon, NC near White Lake in Bladen County.
