Mike "Checkmate" Tatum, age 61, went to be with the Lord on April 25, 2015. He was a dedicated husband, a loving father and a beloved friend.
Mike was an avid hunter, fisherman and conservationist of wildlife. His passions included flying, swimming with his granddaughter and hobby farming. His greatest joy was his two granddaughters. Mike was a member of the former Pineywood Hunting Club in White Oak. He enjoyed the camaraderie with his hunting buddies as much as big game hunting. Mike was co-owner of D and T Masonry construction as a sub-contractor in the Fayetteville area. He was a brick and stone mason for 35 years.
Mike is survived by his wife of 42 years, Barbara; daughters Angie Tatum of White Oak, and Robin Jackson and husband Dee of White Oak; and two granddaughters, Hannah and Morgan. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Isabell Tatum; a brother Earl Faircloth, and a sister Rita Smith.
As a simple man he will be remembered as a good neighbor, a great buddy and a hard worker who loved his family.
A Graveside service will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at Suggs Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Bradley Tatum. A visitation will be held after the service at the home of Dee and Robin Jackson at 527 Live Oak Methodist Church Road in White Oak. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Live Oak Community Building Fund, 751 Live Oak Methodist Church Rd. White Oak NC 28399.
