Herbert Linwood "Lin" Weeks, Jr.

Herbert Linwood “Lin” Weeks, Jr., 80, a beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend, and a faithful follower of Christ, peacefully entered the presence of the Lord on March 2, 2025, surrounded by his family and friends. Born on March 12, 1944, in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, Lin’s life was a beautiful example of devotion to his church, community, family, and everyone he cared about.

Lin was part of the first vocational education class at the College of Albemarle. After graduating, he moved to Elizabethtown to work as a tool and die maker at Veeder Root, and he finished his career at Purolator in Fayetteville. In retirement, he was able to do more of what he loved, especially his passion for machinery.

Lin and his wife, Ann, had a deep love for travel, enjoying vacations, bus trips, and cruises together. They also loved sharing those experiences with their family and friends.

One of the things Lin was most known for was his amazing cooking, whether in the kitchen or on the grill. His beef brisket, pork ribs, chicken bog, jalapeño poppers, and homemade salsas made from his own homegrown vegetables were favorites for everyone who tasted them. Harvest time was always special to Lin, and his garden was a labor of love that always produced a bountiful crop of tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, eggplant, corn, okra, and more. He loved sharing his culinary creations and the fruits of his labor with everyone around him.

Lin’s impact on the community went far beyond his delicious dishes and fresh produce. He proudly served in the Army National Guard, was an active member of the Masonic Lodge – Bladen County 646, and took part in the Kiwanis Club. He also spent many years supporting Boy Scouts of America, helping several young men achieve their Eagle Scout honors. In more recent years, Lin could always be found cheering on his nieces and nephews at school events, band concerts, graduations, birthday parties, and sports games.

Trinity Methodist Church was like a second home to Lin. He was a devoted member for 59 years, having joined when he married the love of his life and best friend, Ann Allen, in 1966. Over the years, Lin took on important roles in various church committees, but his greatest passion was for Old Trinity, a group he led for many years. His dedication played a key role in the recent renovations and ongoing maintenance of the church that held a special place in his heart. Lin was also an active member of the Methodist Men's Group, where he enjoyed working behind the scenes at the Annual Fish Fry and Oyster Roasts, contributing to the church community in ways big and small.

Lin is survived by his wife, Ann; his sister, Faye Peter; his brother-in-law, Dan Allen (wife Sunday); his sisters-in-law, Virginia Allen and Linda Jones (husband Bill); his nieces Tracy Allen Hardin (husband Wilt), Marcia Allen deAndrade (husband David); his nephews David Allen (wife Tiffany), Richard Allen (wife Berkleigh), Matthew Allen (fiancée Claire), David Peter (wife Tonya), Chris Peter, and John Peter (wife Melissa); as well as nine great-nieces, five great-nephews, and one great-great nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Alma Weeks, and his brothers-in-law, Dale Peter, Robert Allen, and Ray Allen.

The family will receive friends on March 4, 2025, from 6-8 p.m. at Trinity Methodist Church. A celebration of Lin’s life will be held at 2pm on March 5, 2025, at Trinity Methodist Church, Elizabethtown, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to Trinity Methodist Church, P.O. Box 759, Elizabethtown, NC.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, March 23, 2025 2 pm in the Old Trinity Cemetery in Elizabethtown.
