Iris Jeanette Cartrette McEwen

Iris Jeanette Cartrette McEwen, 71, of Clarkton passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2024. She was born on October 25, 1953, to the late Avery and Evelyn Duncan Cartrette. She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Dewey Delane and Harold Dean Cartrette and niece, Jean Marie Cartrette Gray.

Mrs. McEwen is survived by her husband, Terry McEwen of the home; daughter, Dellanie Fowler and husband, Brandon of Clarkton; and two grandchildren, Lakynn and Landon “Bubba” Fowler.

Iris was a cosmetology instructor at Hicks Academy in Norfolk, Virginia for a brief period during her husband's military career. She went on to become employed by Hart, Shaffner & Marx until her retirement. At this time, she went on to further her education at Bladen Community College earning her LPN license. She practiced as a nurse with G&G Healthcare until she no longer could.

Iris was a dedicated nurse and caregiver. She cared deeply for her patients and fellow co-workers. She was a member of Clarkton Presbyterian Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher. Iris was a caring soul whose memory will be cherished by all.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, from 2:00 pm until 3:00pm at Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home with a funeral service to follow at 3:00pm with Reverend Barrett Ingram officiating. Burial will follow in Clarkton City Cemetery.
