Joseph “Maurice” Britt, 80, of Clarkton went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 2, 2025, while at Lower Cape Fear Lifecare in Whiteville. He was born and raised in Bladen County on August 20, 1944, one of nine children to the late Joseph Roscoe Britt and Verna Kissam Britt.
Maurice was a hardworking, devoted, Christian man who loved the Lord, his family and his church. He cherished his dear wife, Linda and nicknamed her “His Baby” for he loved to spend time taking care of her needs as well as spoiling her with shopping trips and manicures. Everywhere you saw one, you saw the other. He was a welder by trade and took pride in working with his hands. Maurice enjoyed hanging out with his friend and coworker “Big Mike”, loved to talk on the phone with his grandson Landon, especially about the Lord, and helping others. His dedication and compassion have forever left an imprint on the hearts of all that knew him.
Left to cherish his beautiful memory are his beloved wife, Linda Davis Britt of the home, daughter Melinda Batten (Jeffrey) of Clarkton, son Bradley Smith of Clarkton, sisters Linda Joyce Neal (Dale) and Annis Hester (Harold), grandson Landon Batten, and dear friend, Michael Britt also known as “Big Mike”. He was preceded by his parents, and six siblings, Betty Britt, Melba Dove, Freddie Britt, Eldree Davis, Wayne Britt, and Annette Jackson.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2025, in the Singletary Cemetery on Old Boardman Road, at 4 pm with the Reverend Kevin Kinlaw officiating.
