Lisa Bennett Craven, 65, of White Lake passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2025 while at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville. She was preceded in death by her adored father & mother, June and Rosalie Bennett of Rockingham, NC, and her devoted companion, James Hewett of White Lake, NC.
Lisa was born on July 18, 1960 and grew up in a large, lively family in Rockingham, NC. Her childhood was filled with happy memories of a bustling household alongside the family’s many treasured pets, as well as traveling to Ocean Isle Beach to spend time with her Grandma and Grandpa Skip.
Lisa attended Richmond Senior High School, where she was active in Student Government, French Club, and cheerleading. She also enjoyed frequent trips to North Myrtle Beach with friends that shared a love of beach music and shag dancing, especially to Chairman of the Board. Lisa continued her education at East Carolina University and later Sandhills Community College, where she earned her Medical Laboratory Technician degree.
Lisa built her career in Charlotte and Raleigh, working in medical clinics and forming lifelong friendships along the way. In her free time, Lisa volunteered with the Raleigh Women’s Club and actively supported her children’s school. Lisa also delighted in planning gatherings & entertaining- she was known for her impeccable attention to detail, ensuring even the most casual get-together still had its special touches.
Later in life, Lisa made her home in White Lake, NC with her beloved “Jamie,” James Hewett. Together they shared a passion for beach music, shag dancing, sharp humor, cooking impressive meals, and of course, their cherished Siamese cat, Covington.
Lisa is survived by her children, Caison (Nicole) Craven and Bennett Rose Craven; her grandchildren, Kennedy and Caden Craven, all of Wilmington, NC; her siblings, Kathy (Chuck) Freeman of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, Bennie (Roger) Yarbrough of Clover, SC, Tal (Deborah) Bennett of Rockingham, NC, and Jan (Ray) Armstrong of Laurinburg, NC; as well as all of her treasured Freeman, Yarbrough, Driggers, and Armstrong nieces & nephews that completed the loving family she was always so proud to be a part of.
