Mack "Max" Burney, of Lexington, GA, formerly of Bladenboro, passed away Monday, October 3, 2016. Max is preceded in death by his parents, Webb and Isabelle Burney and two brothers: Lonnie and Wright Burney.He is survived by his wife, Lenora Burney of the home, one son Dale Burney and wife Patti of Jefferson, GA; daughter Samantha Ledford and husband John Jr. of Athens, GA; brother Grady Burney and wife Peggy of Bladenboro; three sisters: Linda Findley and husband Roy of Madison, GA; Nettie Horton and husband Douglas of Bladenboro and Wanda Singletary and husband Ronald also of Bladenboro; five grandchildren: Davis Gray Ledford, Ella Michelle Burney, Megan Elizabeth Burney, Samantha and Shelby Borth.
Max was born and raised in Bladenboro. He worked in the Bladenboro Cotton Mill Carpenter Shop until he moved to Stone Mountain, GA and lived there until his retirement in 2005, at which time he relocated to Lexington, GA until his death. Max enjoyed flying model airplanes and loved his children and grandchildren deeply. He will be missed.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 pm on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A graveside service will be held Thursday, October 6, 2106 at 1 pm at Hester Cemetery in Bladenboro. At other times, the family will receive visitors at the Burney home place at 300 Cabbage Rd, Bladenboro, NC 28320.
