Maxine Priest, 96, of Clarkton, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on June 24th, 2025. She was born on June 4, 1929, to the late Macie Squires Thompson and Yancey Patrick Thompson.
Maxine was pre-deceased by her husband, Edwin Harold Priest of Lisbon, both parents and her grandchildren, Amy Elizabeth Jacobs of Durham and George Daniel Jacobs of Charlotte.
Maxine leaves behind two daughters: Patricia Clark Meshaw and her husband Dan of Clarkton and Rebecca Clark Jacobs of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; grandchildren: Sarah Kathryn Meshaw of Lake Waccamaw, Molly Marie Jacobs of Gainesville, Florida, and Perry Clark Meshaw of Clarkton; great grandchildren: Elizabeth Ann Jacobs and Max Daniel Jacobs, both of Charlotte; sister, Linda Thompson Soles and her husband, John, of Manson, North Carolina; niece, Holly Souls Bennett of Raleigh; nephew, John Patrick Soles of Virginia Beach, niece Cheryl Priest Batten of Whiteville, as well as a host of other nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
Maxine graduated from Whiteville High School and attended Women's College of Greensboro, also known as UNC-G. Maxine worked as a bookkeeper for many years. She was very active in her churches. She sang in the choir for many years and led many Sunday school classes, Women's Bible study classes, and groups of Girls Auxiliary.
Maxine was a wonderful loving mother. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025 at 11:00 am in the White Plains Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Council, NC with the Reverend Barrett Ingram officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Clarkton Presbyterian Church or White Plains Presbyterian Church in her memory. Clarkton Presbyterian: 10433 N College St, Clarkton, NC 28433. White Plains Presbyterian: 6155 White Plains Church Rd, Council, NC 28434.
