Megan Levar Taylor Schoonmaker

How do you measure life? Measure your life in love.”

Megan Levar Taylor Schoonmaker’s life was overflowing with love.

She left this world unexpectedly on the morning of June 27, 2026, at her home in Dunn, North Carolina.

She was born and raised in Bladen County. She attended East Bladen High School where she played volleyball and softball and acquired a love of theater arts. She had the voice of an angel and shared her talents by performing solo for her graduating class. She progressed in theatrical arts with performances in both the Cape Fear Regional Theater and The Gilbert Theater in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

After graduation, she married, B.J., the love of her life and began a career in teaching. They moved to Dunn, NC where she taught students of Harnett County who she often referred to as “Her babies.” Teaching came naturally to Megan, and she was devoted to the children as well as her fellow coworkers. She was known to everyone as “Mrs. S” because most could not pronounce her last name and was loved by all. She was a double recipient of the “Teacher of the Year” Award and well known for her dedication and deep love of education, especially the Arts.

Megan was the devoted wife of William “B.J.” Schoonmaker of the home, cherished mother of Amelia Levar Schoonmaker, beloved daughter of Lourie Levar of Dunn, and Timothy Taylor (Sandra) of Ingold, loving sister of stepbrothers, Kenneth, Kevin, and Zachary McMillan, and precious granddaughter of Ernie and Lou Neal Taylor.

She lived life to the fullest, making the best of every moment God granted her. Her family was her greatest gift, and she cherished spending time with each of them. Her love of theater will continue with her “Mini Me”, Amelia, who shared countless hours with her mother sharing the same passions.

Megan’s favorite quote from the musical RentNo Day but today” will be the driving force that keeps her legacy alive and living in the hearts of all that knew and loved her.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 5th from 3-3:45 pm at the Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with a Celebration of Life Service immediately following at 4 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in honor of Megan can be sent to The Gilbert Theater or the Cape Fear Regional Theater in Fayetteville.
