Michael Duncan Herring

Michael Duncan Herring, age 78, of Elizabethtown, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on July 30, 2025. Born on July 16, 1947, in Wake County, Michael was deeply cherished as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Michael proudly served his country in the United States Army, showcasing his commitment to service and sacrifice. He had a genuine passion for life that was evident in his many hobbies and interests. Michael loved to tinker with various projects and found satisfaction in fixing things. He spent countless hours enjoying the simple pleasures of watching westerns on television and was particularly fond of the water, often relishing time spent at White Lake.

He was a loving family man who deeply valued the time spent with his loved ones. Michael is survived by his beloved spouse, Diane Herring, of the home; son, Christopher Herring and his wife Dawn of Boston; daughter, Elizabeth White (Mike) of Autryville; sister, Pamela Clark of Georgia. His legacy also lives on through his wonderful grandchildren: Michael Douglas Wise (Nicole), Samuel Herring, and 2nd LT Marlee Herring, as well as his great-grandchildren: Mia Wise, Angelo Grimaldi, and Dominic Grimaldi.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Livious Herring and Margaret Ann Horton Herring, whose memories he cherished throughout his life.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 3rd from 4:00 PM to 5:45 PM at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. Following the visitation, a Celebration of Life will be held at the same location at 6:00 PM. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects and celebrate the rich life of a remarkable man who touched the hearts of so many.
