Nancy Allen Clark

Elizabethtown

Nancy Allen Clark, 72, of Elizabethtown, North Carolina, passed away at her home on Wednesday, June 24. Born on August 17, 1953, in Elizabethtown, Nancy was the beloved daughter of Lisley and Charles D. Allen, Sr. She grew up in the close-knit community she would always call home before attending Peace College and later North Carolina State University in Raleigh.

Upon returning to Elizabethtown, she married Edward B. Clark, Jr. ("Ed" or "Ebbie"), a childhood friend of her elder brother, Charles D. Allen, Jr. ("Dave"). Together they built a home and raised a family rooted in love, fun, and lasting memories. For nearly thirty years, Nancy devoted herself to education, touching countless lives as a teacher. A recipient of the Teacher of the Year award, she approached her classroom with warmth, patience, and an unmistakable sense of humor. She believed deeply in her students' potential and celebrated their successes as though they were her own. And of course, the friendships she formed with her beloved fellow teachers became some of the most cherished relationships of her life. Nancy was a woman of boundless energy who rarely sat still. She found joy and purpose in staying busy, believing that hard work, organization, and perseverance were the foundations of a meaningful life. Whether taking on a new project, lending a helping hand, or simply making sure every detail was just right, she found satisfaction in caring for the people and places she loved. And whenever time allowed, she treasured traveling to Maryland to visit Ed, her eldest son, and his family, or to Asheville to spend time with Allen, her youngest son. Above all else, Nancy's greatest joy was her family and the dear friends she held close to her heart. She loved fiercely, selflessly, and with a sense of duty, always placing the needs of those she loved before her own. Her unwavering devotion, quiet strength, and generous spirit were gifts to everyone fortunate enough to know her. Though she will be profoundly missed, the love she gave so freely will continue to live on in the hearts of her family, friends, former students, and all whose lives she touched.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Edward B. Clark, Jr.; her sons, Edward B. Clark, III ("Ed"), and his family of Ellicott City, Maryland, and Allen Clark of Asheville; her brother, Dr. Charles D. Allen, Jr., of Elizabethtown; her nephew, Dr. Charles D. Allen, III, and his family of Asheville; and her niece, Blake Shaw, and her family of Elizabethtown. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles D. Allen, Sr. and Lisley Allen; and her sister-in-law, Rosemary Allen. The family would like to express their gratitude to the Elizabethtown community, whose kindness and support has meant so much.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 1, at 12:00pm at Elizabethtown Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Grace United Methodist Church Building Fund.
