Ricky Lee Tyson Sr.

Ricky Lee Tyson, 69, passed away on August 22, 2026, at UNC Southeastern Hospital in Lumberton, North Carolina. He was born on March 28, 1957, in Robeson County, North Carolina.

Mr. Tyson served in the United States Army and was a proud veteran. Beyond his military service, he owned and operated his own trucking company and worked for many years as a government contractor. His life reflected dedication, hard work, and service.

He is survived by his mother, Margie Dew of Dublin, North Carolina. He also leaves behind his wife, Sharon Tyson of Gastonia, North Carolina; his daughters, Amanda Chambers and Julius of Southport, North Carolina, Jessica Tyson of Wadesboro, North Carolina, and Melanie Burrington-Voges of Wisconsin; his son, Lee Tyson of Gastonia, North Carolina; and his stepdaughter, Carrie Dowd of Gastonia, North Carolina.

Ricky is also survived by his grandchildren, Jarod Tyson, Jacob Register and his wife Payton, Sara Long and her husband Charlie, Kristin Hill, and Kathy Hill as well as eight great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his sisters, Donna Tyson-Blackburn of Hope Mills, North Carolina, and Vanessa Bunch and her husband Mike of Murfreesboro, North Carolina; and by his brother, Doyle Tyson and his wife Wendy of Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina. Each of them carries forward the memory of a man whose life touched his family in lasting ways.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Luther Tyson.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Thursday, September 3, 2026, from Noon until 12:45 p.m. at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 3131 M.L.K. Dr, Elizabethtown, North Carolina 28337. A memorial service will follow in the Chapel at 1:00 p.m. with military honors.

Ricky Lee Tyson will be remembered with love and respect by those who knew him, and his memory will remain close to the hearts of his family and friends.
