Shirley McKeithan McDonald, 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 7, 2026 in Morehead City, North Carolina. Born on November 24, 1936, in Clarkton, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Ira and Estelle McKeithan.
Shirley was a devoted wife to her late husband, Kenneth McDonald, and a loving mother to her daughter, Dawn Enterline (Lee), and her sons, Kenneth McDonald, Jr. (Alice) and Dean McDonald (Jayna). She was a beloved sister to Sue Renshaw and Pauline Evans and was preceded in death by her infant sister Daphne McKeithan and brother, Tommy McKeithan.
She was also a proud grandmother to Jarrod McDonald, Adam McDonald, Jess Huynh, and Brett McDonald, and a great-grandmother to Hien Huynh, Syler Boone, Heidi Boone, Adeline Boone, Raelee Boone and Colton Baccus.
Throughout her life, Shirley found joy in serving others and being an active member of her community. She was a dedicated member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and generously gave her time as a hospice volunteer. Her vibrant spirit was reflected in her participation in the Red Hat Society.
Shirley's faith was the foundation of her life. She found comfort and joy in singing Christian hymns, participating in church activities, and worshiping with her church family.
Known for her friendly demeanor and love of laughter, Shirley brought warmth and light to those around her. Her legacy of kindness will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Pastor Patrick Whaley for his friendship, kindness, and steadfast support over the years.
In honor of Shirley’s memory, memorial contributions may be made to Clarkton Presbyterian Church, a local hospice organization, or an animal rescue organization of your choice.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Clarkton Presbyterian Church, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. A private graveside burial will follow.
