Tommy Ira Thompson

Tommy Ira Thompson, 77, of Elizabethtown passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, while at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He was born and raised in Bladen County the only son of the late Cash Ira “CI” Thompson and Mamie Smith Thompson.

Tommy was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and an endearing friend to all. He was by nature a people person and although he fellowshipped with everyone he most longed for time with his family. He enjoyed grilling out for them, sitting on the porch watching people, deer hunting,  going to auctions or cheering on his beloved New York Yankees or Carolina UNC Tarheels. He was always busy at one thing or another and put the needs of others before his own. His selfless acts, compassionate nature, and love of talking will live on in the hearts and minds of all that love him dearly.

Left to cherish his memory are son, Dwayne Thompson of Dublin, three grandchildren Jordan Meares, Trinity Meares, and Trenton Meares and three great grandchildren Adelea Diana Meares, Levi Blake Meares, and Tiffany Meares. Tommy was preceded in death by his beloved wife Diann Thompson and daughter Tiffany Diann Meares.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, from 1-2 pm at the New Center Baptist Church in Bladenboro followed by a funeral service at 2 pm with Pastor Bryan Hickman and the Reverend Kevin Kinlaw officiating. Burial will follow the services in the Old Field Cemetery in Bladenboro.
