Vertis Duncan

Vertis Duncan, 71, of Bladenboro, died Thursday, October 12, 2006 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington.



Born in Brunswick County on March 27, 1935, he was the son of the late Curtis and Mary Jude Duncan. He was in the Air Force for four years. He worked for Merita Bread Company for 44 years and retired in 1998.



Mr. Duncan was predeceased by his mother, Mary Jude Duncan and his father, Curtis Duncan.



He is survived by his wife, Maxie Pope Duncan; son, Mitchell O. Duncan; step-brother, J.V. Long of Wilmington; sisters, Veamon Brickhouse of Wilmington, Alberta Simmons of Ash; step-sister, Marie Buchanan of Hallsboro; half-sisters, Deloris Harrison of Whiteville and Patricia Adkins of Loris, SC; grandchildren, Joshua O\\'Neal Duncan and Kaelan Nicole Duncan.



The visitation will be from 6:30 until 8:30 Sunday, October 15, 2006 at Bladen Funeral Home. The funeral will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. October 16 at Bladen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Ohlmann officiating. Burial will follow at Bladen Memorial Gardens, Elizabethtown.
