Vickey Patricia Tyler, born Vickey Patricia Watts, passed away on October 12, 2026, at UNC Health Southeastern Hospital. She was born on September 7, 1951, in Bladen County, North Carolina to the late, Curtis Watts and Ella Mae McLean Watts.
Mrs. Tyler will be remembered as a family-centered woman with a feisty spirit, a wonderful sense of humor, and a deep love for those around her. She cherished time with her four daughters and with the many loved ones who made up the circle of her family. She was compassionate and caring, always finding ways to bring her family together. Whenever everyone gathered, there was usually a meal close at hand, and those meals became part of the memories she leaves behind. She especially loved seafood, and family birthday dinners were made even more special by that tradition. Mark’s Seafood in Whiteville was among her favorite places. Her home and her heart were both open, and she was always willing to welcome family in and care for them.
Vickey had a special way of making people feel remembered and loved. Her birthday calls, along with her singing of “Happy Birthday,” made each person feel seen on their special day, and those thoughtful gestures will be dearly missed. She enjoyed westerns, movies, and television shows, and she loved talking about the good old times. She also found joy in coloring on her tablet, wearing out several of them over the years.
In her sixties, she went whitewater rafting with her family, embracing the wet and wild adventure and enjoying every moment of it. She also loved her cats and dogs, especially Mr. Kitty. Her beloved Pebbles was "her shadow" and held a very special place in her heart and is undoubtedly waiting for her on the other side.
Her faith in the Lord was a steady and guiding part of her life. Her love for the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was present in the way she lived, and no meal was eaten without a blessing. If someone forgot, she was always ready to remind them.
She is survived by her daughters, Sherry Tatum and her husband Michael, Karen Pait and her husband Joseph, Beverly Tyler, and Amy Tatum and her husband Timothy. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Nicholas Cain and his husband Ryan Ivey; Courtney Wheeler and her husband Reece; Tyler Johnson and Hannah Blackmon; Joseph Pait; Hollie Frisque and her husband Nathaniel; Nathaniel Davis; and Hannah Downs and her husband Dyllan. Her family also includes her great-grandchildren, Marshal Frisque, Oaklynn Johnson, Samuel Downs, and Harrison Frisque, who is expected soon. She was also blessed by extended family and step grandkids, Bella Dabbs, Hailey Dabbs, and Patricia Dabbs. Each of them was part of the family she loved so deeply, and her love will continue to be felt through them.
She was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-two years, Robert Louis Tyler; her parents; her brother, Wayne Watts; and her sisters, Betty Jo Ann Polston and Patsy Hughes.
Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Thursday, October 15, 2026, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Bladenboro Chapel of Bladen-Gaskins, 800 N. Main Street, Bladenboro, NC 28320.
