Vivian McLean West, 79, of Bladenboro, passed away on July 24, 2025 at her home surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Ruby McLean; daughter, Rebecca McCollum; brothers: Robert, Barden and Henry Clyde McLean; sisters: Myrtle Lee Baxley, Norma Outlaw, Marie Horton and Stella Spell.

Vivian leaves behind her husband, Roy West of the home; son, Steven West (Audra) of Bladenboro; daughters: Tammy Baxley (Larry) of Bladenboro, Sandra Sykes (Roger) of Sunset Harbor; son-in-law, Greg McCollum of Bladenboro; brothers: Wilton McLean, Mitchell McLean, Eugene McLean (Mary Ann), Horace McLean (Linda), all of Bladenboro; sister, Esther Hood (Bruce) of Bladenboro; grandchildren: Joseph Brown (Shana) of Bladenboro, Brian Baxley (Alex) of Florida, Scott Baxley (Danielle) of Stedman, Alison McCollum of Bladenboro, Blake Brown (Temperance) of Bladenboro, Morgan Link (Jeremiah) of White Oak, Logan West of Tennessee and Megan West of Bladenboro; great-grandchildren: Nolan Brown, Emmitt Brown, Emerald Brown, Presley Baxley, William Baxley, Cray Boswell, Jacob Link and special friend, Brittany Jones.

Vivian’s essence was deeply rooted in her dedication to her family. She cherished every moment spent with them, creating lasting memories that will be treasured for generations to come. Her home was a sanctuary of love, laughter, and shared experiences, where family gatherings would sometimes be highlighted by her famous fried chicken or a lovingly prepared roast on Sundays. Vivian had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and loved, ensuring each meal was not just about food, but about togetherness.

Vivian’s talents extended beyond the kitchen. An avid sewer, she transformed fabric into beautiful creations. Her love for the mountains inspired her, drawing her to nature and providing a sense of peace that she carried with her throughout her life. Whether it was the serene backdrop of a mountain or the vibrant colors of her carefully tended flowers, Vivian found beauty everywhere, infusing her life with joy.

Her faith was a cornerstone of her existence. As a devoted member of Grace Baptist Church, Vivian dedicated many hours teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, sharing her wisdom and nurturing the spiritual growth of countless children in her community. Her commitment to her faith was evident in everything she did, as she lived her life with kindness and grace, always striving to inspire those around her.

Shopping on Saturdays became a cherished ritual for Vivian and her family. These outings were not just errands; they were opportunities for connection, laughter, and creating beautiful memories. In every activity she undertook, Vivian’s vibrant spirit shone through, reminding everyone of the importance of family bonds and the joy found in the simplest moments.

The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Friday, July 25th at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral service will be held at 11am on Saturday, July 26th at Grace Baptist Church in Bladenboro with Reverend Arthur Smith officiating the service. Burial will follow in the Bladen Memorial Gardens in Elizabethtown.
