Walter "Hudson" Bryan

Walter "Hudson" Bryan, a beloved family man and dedicated adventurer, passed away peacefully at his home in Bladenboro on May 2, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on June 29, 1933, in Bladen County, Hudson lived a life richly woven with love, travel, and cherished memories.

Hudson's career with Fluor Daniel Construction provided him the opportunity to travel extensively, paving the way for adventures with his wife, Helen Dove Bryan. Together, they explored the country in their RV, making countless memories along the way. Their travels were filled with joy as they visited various destinations, from the thrilling races at Daytona 500 to the breathtaking views of Cape Canaveral.

At home, Hudson found immense joy in being surrounded by his loving family. He was known for his passion for fishing and boating, spending many hours off the coast of Key West with his daughters. The beach was his sanctuary, where he relished moments of tranquility and fun with his loved ones. Hudson's enthusiasm for NASCAR and home projects brought him happiness and pride, allowing him to engage fully in life's simple pleasures.

Hudson is survived by his devoted wife, Helen; his son, Marlon Bryan; and daughters: Wanda B. Hester (M.J.) of Bladenboro, Patsy B. Teachey of White Lake, Janet Chihocky (Gilbert) of Virginia, and Dianne B. Dougherty (Mike) of Florida. He also leaves behind his brother, Tony Bryan (Brenda) of Jacksonville; sisters: Mazelle Deaver of Virginia, Melville Simmons of Florida, and Carnelle Pait of Bladenboro; along with thirteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, who will carry on his legacy of love and kindness.

Hudson was predeceased by his parents, Walter Miles Bryan and Bessie Taylor Butler, as well as his brother, Heulon Bryan. His life's journey was characterized by the strength of family ties and a spirit of adventure that will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

A graveside service will be held at 11am on Tuesday, May 6th in the Bladen Memorial Gardens in Elizabethtown with Reverend Kevin Kinlaw officiating service.

As we honor Hudson's memory, we cherish the moments shared and the impact he made on the lives of those around him.
