William Robert "Skipper" King Jr.

William Robert King Jr., affectionately known as “Skipper” of Council went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 22, 2026, while at Novant New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Robert King Sr. and Mollie Davis King, and one sister, Cecilia Finison.

Skipper was a devoted husband to his wife, Rhonda Stephens King, cherished son-in-law to Isaac and Coleen Stephens and beloved uncle and friend to his nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

He enjoyed it when all the family could come together to share a meal or share some laughter. His contagious sense of humor always shined bright especially when conversing with his nieces and nephews. He loved nothing better than to give them a hard time. His second happy place was outdoors whether riding his mower, working on his antique tractors and cars or tending his garden. It always brought him much joy. After a hard day’s work, he loved to sit down to some good home cooking by Rhonda. One might say that he had a simple life, but it was a wonderful life filled with all the true riches a man can have. His devotion to the Lord and his home church at Carvers Creek Methodist can be seen in the labors of love in the historical room. His commitment to his family and deep faith will live on in the hearts of all that will miss him dearly.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2026 at 3 pm at the Carvers Creek Methodist Church with the Reverend Donald Daniels officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Carvers Creek Methodist Church or Cemetery fund.
